My bag got stolen. And the only copy of the recovery key is in there. And I don’t have a number at the moment coz the contract got cancelled. So I won’t be able to recieve an sms for a verification

Activation Lock is a hardware protection scheme.
You clear it by entering your AppleID password.

If you use Advanced Data Protection AND set up both a recovery key and a recovery contact, you can use either your recovery key or recovery contact to regain access to your account.

If none of these are available, your AppleID will remain permanently inaccessible.
You can then only possibly regain use of your device by submitting appropriate proof of ownership to Apple via an Activation Lock Support Request.
If you’ve lost your recovery key, you can simply re-generate it.
The new key simply supersedes the prior key.

Been dealing with this for a year now… resorted to using my 2015 MacBook air in order to preserve the files on my macbook pro that I can’t login to because I don’t have the stupid recovery key
Yes. But also never recall having to deal with the “filevault” recovery key in the first place…

I would suspect that many - if not most - might well agree.
I dont pay no mind to what anyone wants to agree on… this laptop also had my touch id setup to it aswell and that stopped working too
TouchID is only activated AFTER successful entry of the device’s password.

What EXACT process are you trying to perform?
Is this - as suspected - part of a “Lost Mac Password” recovery ?
(or is it a Lost AppleID Password account recovery ???)
