Updating Ventura Took 4 Hours!

I just updated Ventura to 13.5.2 and it took four hours! This is insane. I have an excellent internet connection - I'm at work. It doesn't matter if I continue to work during the update or not - it still takes a ridiculous amount of time. I missed an important company webinar because of this. Mac has become just as bad as Windows. I so miss Steve Jobs. I did a Google search and apparently a lot of people have asked the same question - why does it take SOOO LONG to update Mac?!

It took me around 15 minutes earlier today to update my Mac to Ventura 13.5.2.

So I'd ask the following questions:

    • What's your internet connection speed? I'd check and see what your speeds are at work.
    • You may be going thru several firewalls at work which could slow things down.
    • Do you have any anti-virus, "cleaner", or "optimizer" applications installed? If so, use their respective uninstallers to complete eradicate them...they cause more issues than they "pretend" to prevent.
    • What's your total hard disk size, and how much is available on it?

I agree that 4 hours to update your Mac's OS is ridiculous, but I've never experienced any upgrade cycle taking more than 45 minutes or so....so I think it's something unique to your Mac and/or your company's internet service.

It depends entirely on how many people might be updating at the same time as you did. For example, when I updated, it took about 15 minutes. But on other times, it's taken over an hour. If you'd like to avoid that kind of problem, avoid updating in the first couple days until the masses have updated theirs which usually overwhelms their servers or network connections.
