Epson Smart Panel/Epson Perfection 640U

Since installing Tiger I have been unable to use the above. I have tried reinstalling software and downloading drivers from Epson but no use. When the scanner is plugged in Nikon View 6 launches automatically and I can see the scanner/smart panel folders but double clicking doesnt work. I have the smart panel icon in the dock and when I open this manually it opens fine but when I try to copy/email etc I get the error message "cant find scanner on the bus" all the cables are attached in the correct places. Does anyone have a solution?
