How old is the charger? It is normal for a charger to be warm, but not uncomfortably hot.
I would try a different electrical outlet to rule out the original outlet being the cause.
Then I would get new charger. If there is an Apple Store nearby, go there first with your laptop and connect it to one of their chargers (they have some on the tables for customers to use during their visits) and see if the connector gets hot there. If the Apple Store employees say that is not normal, your computer may need service. Otherwise, I would get a new charger, preferably a genuine Apple part (not a third party part).
