There are a few things you can do to get the Mac Menu Bar back if it is missing.

  • Check if the menu bar is hidden. The menu bar can be hidden by default or by pressing the Command+F2 keyboard shortcut. To check if the menu bar is hidden, hover your mouse over the top of the screen. If the menu bar appears, then it was simply hidden.
  • Check the System Preferences. The menu bar can also be hidden by a setting in the System Preferences. To check this, open System Preferences and click on Dock & Menu Bar. Under Menu Bar, make sure that the checkbox next to Automatically hide and show the menu bar is not checked.
  • Restart your Mac. Sometimes, a simple restart can fix the problem. To restart your Mac, hold down the Command+Control+Option+Power keys and then click Restart.
  • Reset the System Management Controller (SMC). The SMC is a chip on your Mac that controls a variety of system functions, including the menu bar. To reset the SMC, follow these steps:
    1. Turn off your Mac.
    2. Press and hold the Shift, Control, and Option keys, and then press the Power button.
    3. Hold down the keys for 10 seconds, then release them.
    4. Press the Power button to turn on your Mac.

If you have tried all of these things and the menu bar is still missing, then you may need to take your Mac to a repair shop.

Same problem here. Sonoma 14.5, mac studio m1 max. I have the manu bar set up as auto hide, but it won't appear when moving the mouse to the top.

I have multiple screens, it doesn't work on any of them, with the window active in the screen I'm moving the mouse.

Only fix is to restart.

If I set up the menu bar to "never hide" it appears, but as soon as I set it up to "always hide" it won't come out until restart.

Resetting the SMC fixed the issue while my MacBook was shut down fixed the issue.

To reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on a MacBook with a non-removable battery while it's shut down, you can try these steps:

  1. Shut down your MacBook
  2. Connect the power adapter
  3. Press and hold Shift, Control, and Option on the left side of the keyboard
  4. At the same time, press and hold the Power button
  5. Hold for 10 seconds
  6. Release all keys and the Power button
  7. Press the Power button again to turn on your MacBook

Everything showed back up on the menu bar and I can click, type and the minimize bar showed up again!
