No audio output. When going into audio settings, the internal speakers as well as the built in microphone do not show. The volume keys do not work. Connecting Bluetooth headphones works. It is not a hardware issue as I’ve run a hardware diagnostic.

Something similar is happening with me. My in-built mic is not working. So I tried NVRAM reset multiple times. It didn't work. I started up in safe mode and inside the safe mode, neither audio output nor input devices were listed in the sound section.
In the normal mode, both input and output are visible in the sound section, but input mic does not seem to be working.

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Then WE either have a corrupted OS Install or a Hardware failure it would seem.
