iCloud photo date and sorting

I Imported photos from my PC to iCloud Photo Library.
Photos in iCloud Photo Library and iPhone Photos app show the correct "date photo taken" - August 31, 2016
But iCloud Photo Library and iPhone Photos app has those photos sorted as if they are today's date - September 10, 2023.
In other words, the 2016 photos show up as the most recent photos in iCloud Photo Library and iPhone Photos app.
How can I fix this so that photos are sorted by their correct "date photo taken" and not the date they were uploaded?

Where are you viewing the photos in Photos? The "ll Photos" album is sorted by the date the photos have been taken, but the Recents album is sorted by the date the photos have been added to Photos. Are your photos sorted correctly, when you are viewing them in the Library tabs "Days", "Months", "Years"?

Initially they were not, and the 2016 photos showed up under 2023/September/10. However, it has been about 20 minutes since I posted this question and the photos are now appearing under the correct Years/Months/Days labels. I must have been experiencing a processing lag.
