MacBook Pro 14” M2 Pro Overheating

Hi

My brand new M2 Pro 14” MacBook Pro was overheating so the back of the keyboard is almost too hot to touch and the keyboard is hot running Premiere, and Logic with lots of plugins. The temperature of the CPU runs up to 80-95 a lot and I’ve seen it hit 105.

The Apple genius ran hardware tests which were fine and said it might be a firmware problem caused by a failed Time Machine restore.

She suggested the standard erase and install which I don’t really want to do for the millionth time cos it takes three days with all my software.

What would you recommend the problem might be and a fix or just return the machine with those temps.

thanks. Steve

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.4

If the Mac was too hot it would shut itself down.

I would verify your software is up to date "running Premiere, and Logic with lots of plugins."

Are you wishing the 14 day window for returning the laptop no questions asked? If you are get it into the nearest Apple store ASAP and have them take a look at it. If it's defective you can opt for a new one, same specs.

If you're outside the 14 day window you're still under warranty so take it in to be looked at in detail. Be sure to have a backup of your boot drive before taking it in.

Make an appointment ASAP at the nearest Apple Genius Bar. If you're witting the 14 day window make the appointment even if you can't get there tithing the window. You've made the appointment within the window and that's important.

Thanks very much for your help Leroy,
Are you saying this kind of heat on the keyboard, and temps on the CPU are normal, or just not dangerous for the computer when part of some software/firmware issue?
Do you think I should delete CleanMyMac even though it measures the temps and it seemed the overheating was the same before and after I installed it?
All the plugins inside Premiere and logic were up to date.
I'm going to try the update to latest Ventura and do a revive this evening.
Here's an error message I got when the machine did in fact once shut down. It froze for 1-2 minutes first, using Logic Pro, if you are kind enough to take a look at this if it might help bring the discussion forward.
Thanks very much
Steve

You have to get rid of the garbage if you are trying to resolve your issue—CleanMyMac is one of the worst.

Hey Leroy,

I was browsing through discussions when I ran into your reply to @stevepaulsounds and I am now curious what would be a good all-in-one solution/alternative for an app like CleanMyMac.

See I when I got my 14" M2 Pro MacBook Pro about 2 months back, I was constantly watching videos on YouTube about setup, apps, and quality-of-life improvements for my Mac, and I happened to stumble upon CleanMyMac. It looked promising, and though I didn't do thorough research, everything about it seemed amazing. It still does seem that way, as I downloaded it then and am still running it on my Mac. I really do like it, especially how convenient it is. (being a minimalist, having all the tools for hardware optimization in one app is what I love about CleanMyMac)

Would you or anybody else be able to explain to me why CleanMyMac is so bad? Pros, Cons, and a formidable alternative which is better and also why it is better?

Thanks
