Microphone only working for Safari - no other apps

Hey guys,

for some reason my microphone only works for Safari but no other apps.

I already tried restarting, resetting the input audio setting via terminal and also tried third party software. Nothing helps. Seems like Safari is somehow blocking any other app from accessing the microphone.

Even in the system preferences i did setting check the app listed , the microphone is not working, only in Safari.

and even its working for siri commands

even in System Preference

Sound it's not working but in safari Mic is working fine.

this bar is not moving .

I couldn't find anything online so hoping that you can help me.

Hi iabhishekkumarsingh,

Did you see Chrome and Firefox listed in the Privacy & Security window when you checked for microphone access? If you did, and you selected them, check to see if you need to also enable microphone access within the apps.

We found these instructions on how to enable microphone access within Chrome on your computer.

1. Open Chrome.
2. Go to a site that wants to use your microphone and camera.
3. When prompted, choose Allow or Block.
* Allowed sites: Sites can start to record when you're on the site. If you're using a different Chrome tab or a different app, a site can't start recording.
* Blocked sites: Some sites won't work if you block them. For example, you won't be able to join a video call.

Use your camera & microphone - Google Chrome Help

For Firefox, refer to: Use the Firefox Settings menu to change camera and microphone permissions

Best Regards.

Hi iabhishekkumarsingh,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand the microphone is only working for Safari, but not other apps. You'll want to make sure that your apps have access to the microphone by following these steps: Control access to the microphone on Mac.

"Some apps and websites can use the microphone on your Mac to capture or record audio. You can decide which apps are allowed to use the microphone.

  1. Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Privacy & Security  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click Microphone.
  3. Turn access to the microphone on or off for each app in the list.
  4. If you turn off access for an app, you’re asked to turn it on again the next time that app tries to use your microphone.
  5. Note: The Recording Indicator light in Control Center shows when your computer’s microphone is in use or has been used recently. This light increases security and privacy on your Mac by letting you know if an app has access to the microphone.

If you allow third-party apps or websites to use your microphone information, any information they collect is governed by their terms and privacy policies. It’s recommended that you learn about the privacy practices of those parties.

If you’re a systems administrator and want information about deploying security settings, see Apple Platform Deployment."

Take care.

Hi iabhishekkumarsingh,

Looking over the conversation you have properly followed all available steps and the Apple side of this is working as intended and sounds like an isolation to third-party. The best options would be to contact the developers for these browsers to help determine solutions within their apps or additionally can contact Apple Support to further confirm this guidance so you can move towards a desired solution.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
