Can’t customise Lost Mode message AirTag

Hi,

I am trying to activate Lost Mode of my AirTag, the online instructions explained that it’s possible to add a message “saying that the item is lost and include your phone number or email address.”

This is all very nice and all, but the message area is greyed out and I’m unable to customise the message itself. The current message is: “This item has been lost. Please call me”, which in my opinion is very superficial and non-informing, it also doesn’t give you the “option” to actually ADD a message to the AirTag. Or am I wrong somehow?

I would like to ADD my own personalised message to my lost AirTag, which will describe more detailed instructions of what to do with it in the moment, where to return to, etc. Because right now it’s just useless in my eyes, why say that “you can ADD a message”, when you in fact cannot do this???

Might be a better idea to just edit the instructions to “a message will be added saying the item is lost…” This prevents people from thinking that they have the possibility to add their own message to the item.

I would appreciate it very much if this option can be changed to the possibility of a personally customised message, since this can provide important information to the person finding my item!

And I’m also more than likely not the only person here who’s been looking for an answer and solution to this… Thought that Apple would be a bit smarter when it comes to stupid issues like these to be honest 😅
