Siri won’t speak confirmations of my commands

iPhone 12, iOS 16.2.

I remember sometime in the past that every time I would say “hey Siri, add eggs to my grocery list“, I would get a verbal confirmation like “added“. Or something like that.

And the same with putting something on my calendar, or setting a reminder.

But now Siri silently displays a confirmation on the screen. No use when it’s in my pocket.

I’ve checked all the settings.

Prefer spoken responses is on.

Announce notifications is on for Reminders, calendar, some others.

I woke Sari up and then set the volume high. It was already high.

Type to Siri was on. I turned it off. No joy.

I find this exceptionally frustrating because it used to work.

Any tips are welcome.
