No option to Erase disk in General tab

Running Monterey There is no option from Apple logo to General tab for erasure of iMac

iMac 21.5″, macOS 12.6

Problem accessing recovery mode on 2013 iMac in order to erase disk. I am trying to erase the disk on my 2013 iMac. However, I do not have an Apple keyboard and pressing Command plus R during startup does not open Recovery Mode. It justs boots up normally. If I go to Disk Utility, the ERASE command is greyed out. Is there an alternate way to erase my disk?

can't erase computer with Mac os Big Sur Used disk utility to try to erase my mac os big sur with Intel Core and 'erase' was grayed out with a message that it "can't be performed because you can't unmount the startup volume. How do I erase this so I can donate it?

Correct. That would require an Apple silicon Mac or a Mac with a T2 chip.

Thank you for responding brain. Not sure what a silicon Mac is but very frustrating that a iMac running Monterey doesn’t have the ability to erase and move on!

An Apple silicon Mac has an M1/M2 CPU.
