I am meeting someone who I sold my imac 2019. When following the instructions using disk utility to erase my mac, I missed the step “quit disk utility, but don’t restart your Mac”. What are the implications if I don’t do anything? And what do I need to do so it is operational for buyer. Help!

I ran out of time. Based on starting the recovery myself, it appeared the buyer could also follow the same steps to recover it on his own. I printed instructions and informed of my error and that if he followed the instructions he should be fine. He felt confident and we closed the deal. Thank you for replying!
I did but I missed what seems to be a critical step. After quitting the Disk Utility, I restarted my machine and now I am stuck. I don’t know what to do next. I need help with that part.
