Keynote Animations

I am a secondary math teacher and have created a Keynote with some practice problems for my students. The background of each slide has these circles I have set to pulse as an action behind the problems while the students work. After the students work for a few minutes, I want to be able to click and have the answer appear on the same slide. I set up an animation with the answer text to fade in "On Click". However, I am finding that the slide does not allow me to click and have the answer appear until after the allotted time I have the circles pulsing for is up. I want to be able to have the answer fade in while the circles are still pulsing in the background. Is there a way to do this? Or is it not possible to activate a new, separate animation until the previous one is complete?
