iWatch ECG App for SVT

I have a diagnosed Supraventricular Tachycardia for which I would like to use the ECG app on the iWatch to track and record. The episodes seem to be getting more frequent and it would be good to have this data in a report to show my doctor. Is the iWatch ECG app able to pick up the speed of heart rate of an SVT?

Hi Alex

Yes I bought one and had an episode just a month ago. I was surprised at how well it recorded the palpitation, given that my HR went from c. 70bpm to c. 197pm.

It’s not the best recording, and the watch does say something about the HR being over 150 and so the accuracy was lessened, but it still showed a significant difference between resting and SVT ECG recordings.

That being said, it picked it up far better than my Fitbit (which just didn’t even notice the heart rate increase) and actually recorded a downloadable pdf. Even though it doesn’t stop the palpitations, it felt so nice to feel some sense of control or at the very least feel like there was a thing I could proactively do, even if it was just record it.

I’ll attach here the before and after ECG recordings and you can decide from there whether you think it would be useful.

1 image shows a normal rhythm, one shows during SVT, one shows the transition from SVT back to normal.

hopefully this helps with your decision. I’d be so keen for Apple to explore this as a feature in relation to SVTs, so hopefully this gains some traction.
