The iPad Pro and the MacBook Air are both powerful devices that run on the same Apple M1 chip, but they have different advantages and disadvantages depending on your needs and preferences.

The iPad Pro is a tablet that can also function as a laptop when paired with a keyboard and a trackpad, such as the Magic Keyboard or a third-party option. The iPad Pro has a touchscreen that supports the Apple Pencil, which can be useful for drawing, taking notes, or annotating documents. The iPad Pro also has a better selfie camera that can track your face during video calls, and a rear camera that can take high-quality photos and videos. The iPad Pro has Face ID for unlocking the device and making payments. The iPad Pro runs on iPadOS, which is optimized for touch input and has access to a large library of apps designed for tablets.

The MacBook Air is a laptop that has a traditional keyboard and trackpad, as well as an extra USB-C port for connecting peripherals. The MacBook Air has more storage in the base model (256GB vs 128GB), which can be important if you need to store a lot of files locally. The MacBook Air also has a longer battery life (14:41 vs 10:16 hours) according to some tests. The MacBook Air runs on macOS, which is more suitable for multitasking and productivity, as it has features like window management, desktop spaces, Spotlight search, and Finder. The MacBook Air can also run iOS apps natively, but they may not be optimized for the larger screen.

Both devices have similar screen sizes (13.3 inches vs 12.9 inches) and resolutions (2560 x 1600 pixels vs 2732 x 2048 pixels), but the iPad Pro has a brighter and more colorful display that supports HDR content¹. Both devices start at $999, but the iPad Pro becomes much more expensive when you add the cost of a keyboard and an Apple Pencil.

Ultimately, the choice between the iPad Pro and the MacBook Air depends on your personal preference and usage scenario. If you value portability, versatility, and creativity, you may prefer the iPad Pro. If you value productivity, performance, and functionality, you may prefer the MacBook Air. You can read more about the differences between the two devices in these articles. I hope this helps you make an informed decision. 😊

My personal opinion is never choose a pad over a computer.

We have four iPads of various sizes and vintages. But when either of us, wife and I, need to do real work, we opt for a computer.

It's a personal choice, but I've known few people who regretted getting a computer. Generally they added a pad later, but that was to augment the MacBook not replace it.

You're not going to be a student forever. Which do you feel will better serve you after school is over?
