Itunes on windows pc not recognising my ipad

I have tried different usb ports on the pc and a different cable. The device shows in device manager and it says no other drivers are needed. It tells me the internal storage on the ipad so the PC is recognising the ipad. I have turned both devices on and off. But the ipad doesn't appear in itunes. I haven't used itunes for a while but not had this issue before.

any further suggestions other than the obvious fixes i have already tried?

thanks

iPad, iPadOS 16

See the Install missing components section in:

However, depending on whether you installed iTunes from the Microsoft Store, you may not need this driver. If so and you want to pursue this you can uninstall iTunes and the download iTunes directly from Apple. Thanks for replying. I seem to be fully updated. Delving in a bit more , using that second link you gave me, I think the problem is that windows only has the MTP USB driver installed. When I click driver update it says the driver is the best one for the job and doesn’t have the Apple Mobile device usb driver in the system, so I can’t access that.

is there a way to get that on my computer ?

I have tried letting windows find it and I have tried browsing but it isn’t there so I don’t know how to get it.

Thanks for this, appreciate it. I did install from Microsoft store which is presumably why the Apple driver isn’t there. If I go to the Apple website to try and install iTunes it sends me to the Microsoft store so I feel stuck in a cycle …. But that might be because I already have iTunes.

if not due to the driver I don’t know why else my iPad isn’t being recognised. iTunes now gives me a message saying a device has been connected but can’t be recognised. Happens with my mini iPad too.

i will look at the other links you sent, maybe uninstalling and reinstalling is the only game left to me …. Or just accepting I can’t put any new media on my iPad .

thanks again
