I also just saw a news report on that yesterday. I did look for electromagnetic radiation before my initial reply to see if it applied to a cell phone (or other electronic devices).

Per the usual with search engines, how you state your search parameters determines what you do, or don't get for results. Everything I got back for my search related only to space.

At its basic, only the iPhone 12 is a concern. Jean-Noël Barrot of France said the iPhone 12’s radiation levels are “slightly higher” than EU standards but “significantly lower than levels where scientific studies consider there may be consequences for users. But the rule is the rule.”

So, even their complaint isn't for worrying about the levels an iPhone 12 emits, but only that it slightly exceeds the allowed maximum. Apple says a software update will fix the problem.

The World Health Organization states the radiation produced by cellphones cannot directly damage DNA and is different from stronger types of radiation like X-rays or ultraviolet light.

Overall, it's still much ado about nothing. We are subject to such radiation every single day. Electromagnetic radiation is also called blackbody radiation. Here's just a partial list of the types of things that emit such radiation:

  • The Sun (and other stars)
  • Household heating and lighting
  • Light bulbs
  • Heat lamps
  • Electric heaters
  • Household radiators
  • Electric stoves
  • A candle's flame (and other flames)
  • Warm Blooded Animals
  • Night vision equipment
  • Sensors for automatic light switches and burglar alarms
  • The cooling of Earth at night

I though the fourth from the bottom was particularly interesting. Hmm, 8 billion humans, not to mention all other mammals on Earth, emitting electromagnetic radiation all day, every day. And the last one is also a major point. The entire Earth emits the same radiation. No one can get away from that. At least, not without getting on a spaceship and leaving the planet. Which isn't a good plan since you are then subject to far greater amounts of radiation outside of the Earth's protective magnetic field.

I just saw this post after reading an article from a reputable source (can’t link otherwise it will be deleted). The phone reportedly “exceed the legal limits of radiation exposure” in France, and is being threatened to be banned, if Apple can’t resolve the issue with a software update. Apple employees are not to comment if asked on this issue, and where France is asking for Apple to recall the unit, effecting all models. I suggest you look this up as it seems to be a bigger issue than on an average smartphone (or even iPhone).
