Toggle between Kids' icloud account on Ipad

I have 2 kids and only one ipad. I set the ipad up for one kid on the family sharing function. Both kids have an icloud account and are incorporated into the "Family Sharing" account. I would like to track their use and screen time independently. I set up the ipad with one of the kids account. I cannot seem to log out and switch the the other kid. How do I toggle between the 2 on the same device?

Alternate question: I have 2 kids and 2 Ipads. For some reason one kid's icloud is tied to both machines. This means that the screentime limits are spread over both ipads instead of for each account. If i "start New" with one of the ipads, what happens to all the app purchases? and user settings?

Hello Brooklyn_Bruiser,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. Did you set up an Apple ID account for each child or are they sharing the same Apple ID account? You'll want to make sure that each child has their own Apple ID account so you can manage their usage for Screen Time. It's not possible to use two different Apple ID accounts on one iPad.

In reference, to your other question, if you decide to create a new Apple ID for your child and use another iPad, you can add them for Family Sharing. This way the new Apple ID account for your child will have access to app purchases. For the configuration of user settings on the new iPad, you would need to set that up again on the new iPad.

Kind regards.

Outside of Educational and Enterprise establishments, iPad and iPhone are principally intended to be a single-user device - and are not intended to shared in the same manner as you may be accustomed when using a Windows PC or Mac computer - which has multiple user profiles/accounts.

For managed environments, where multi-user usage is possible, the Deployment Guide provides appropriate guidance.

Shared iPad overview – Apple Support

For unmanaged environments, be aware that if you sign-out of iCloud and other Apple services - and allow another user to sign-in - you’ll not be able to change back for 90-days. So as to prevent account abuse, some critical Apple services will only allow one change of signed-in AppleID (on a device) in a 90-day period.

In conclusion, unless you fully understand and accept the implications, you would be well advised to reconsider attempting to share an iPad between users.

In conclusion, each of your children should have their own dedicated device. This will resolve the 90-day restriction - and address any issues with Family Sharing and associated controls.
