Apple has removed our capacity to create and use custom ring tones. Why?

Since the iOS16 update, I have lost the ability to use my custom ringtones for my contacts.

Why has Apple removed this facility? Apart from the obvious answer...

And how can I add custom ring tones in iOS16 now?

Use GarageBand.

Yes, if you have GarageBand, Transfer the songs from the Files app to GarageBand then --> GarageBand: Share songs to iTunes - Apple Support or Import a song from the Music app into GarageBand for iPhone ...

Here you have the process!

My GarageBand opens my iCloud Drive. In your case, it may not be so. Nevertheless, the process remains the same. This helps because accidentally if you open up iCloud Drive using GarageBand you can get back to GarageBand.

Music must be on your iPhone not on iCloud Library.

When you select the song Hold and tap the Song delicately for it to populate it in Audio Recorder.

Watch the GIF below to convert any music to RingTone

This is made on iOS 13.3.1 iPhone SE

Are you able to add a custom SMS tone to a contact on a phone with iOS 17? I cannot. I even tried buying a new one from Apple and it doesn't show as an option.

GarageBand can't seem to open my existing tones, even if I have them in a folder in Files and they are located on the phone.

Idris, I cannot add a custom tone to a contact. That is the whole point of my thread.

I wasn't replying to you. I was asking SravanKrA if they were able to get the instructions they posted to work using iOS 17.

I do not relish the idea of buying a Samsung just for customisability purposes...

Seems a bit like throwing the baby out with the bathwater to me but, you should do what works best for you.

Meanwhile, submit feedback.
