How do I move GB off my MacBook Pro to icloud?

I have 2 TB of icloud space and my MacBook Pro is set to store GB there - so why is my MacBook Pro saying it is full? ... 484gb of 494gb used

Please help me understand how this works

Because right now any file or folder that you want to move to iCloud is first moved/or duplicated in the iCloud folder on your Mac. Example, I have a 2tb plan; I wanted to move an 890gig folder on an external hd to my 2tb iCloud account. iCloud will not let me do it because there is not enough room on my internal drive to copy the folder to the iCloud Drive folder on my Mac. No one at Apple iCloud support can tell how to do that. It was suggested to login to my iCloud account on the web and move the folder over. Guess what that won't work because you can only move files and not folders into the iCloud Drive when logged in from the web. I asked support what are they going to do when they open up the 6tb and 12tb iCloud? Their reply: We have no idea how that is going to work until it is release. Stay Tuned.
