There was an error in Internet Accounts preferences

Hi all.

3 days ago my Mojave iMac suddenly started asking for my yahoo account password. I re-entered and it was OK for a while. Then, it started asking again and again until finally I wasn't able to register the password any more.

"There was an error in Internet Accounts preferences" started popping up.

Then, I deleted the account, went to System Preferences / Internet accounts and tried adding it.

This time, the account isn't even added, "There was an error in Internet Accounts preferences" pops up and the funny thing is Yahoo confirms the sign in.

I appear to be signed in but there is no account in. I tried adding the account on the Mail app, same thing.

Tried deleting Mobile.me.accounts.plist and com.apple.SystemPreferences. plist, no difference.

I even tried DB Browser for SQLite. There was a single Yahoo record. Deleting it was no help, either.

It appears to be a System Preferences / Account setting problem, but I am no expert and tried it all to the best of my ability.

Can anyone give a hand?

Unfortunately no. Apple CS tried helping out. We tried things I never heard of but in the end the only solution was to upgrade the OS. It was a non-starter because of program compatibility.

My biggest concern was my yahoo mail account and I resolved that with Spark mail app.

I did a re-install though which sort of gave a youth injection to my iMac.

Having said that; I'd suggest requesting Call assistance. You probably have tried most of what they will attempt to do, which was in my case.

But, here is the kicker; I talked to 3 different reps via screenshare because certain things took time and they all had differing levels of experience and knowledge. They might find something deep where we mortals can't dig.

Just give it a try.

I have the exact same problem also in Mojave running on my old Macbook Pro and went more or less through the same processes, also without any success. Did you manage to solve the issue since this post ?

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

I came to the same conclusion and switched to Thunderbird, as I also have some software compatibility requirements preventing me from upgrading the OS.
