erasing my mac book

trying to return my MacBook pro and cannot figure how to erase content --went to apple menu -systems preferences -general -but does not show a option to erase

That specific option is only available in newer Macs but you can use the following instructions. It has a section titled "If your Mac doesn't have Erase All Content and Settings." See: What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac - Apple Support
