What firmware is installed? What is the model of your AirPods? Go here, and see if you have the latest: About Firmware Updates for AirPods - Apple Support. Unfortunately, your cannot push AirPod updates. So, pair these to a device that is already connected to the Internet, and they will be updated automatically, sure enough.

Unfortunately, you cannot push AirPod updates. So, unpair these from this device, and then pair them back. If that does not work, then try pairing them with another device.
