iTunes is not charging my gift card that I redeemed

I bought an apple gift card and redeemed it. I bought an album. It still has 10 dollars left on it that I was going to use to purchase other music. When I pressed to purchase, it refused to use the balance on my gift card, even though this is the payment type at the top of my list. I’m stuck on what to do.
