"Mobile Data is Turned Off" popup

"Turn on mobile data or use Wi-Fi to access data."

Nothing is more frustrating about using an iPhone than this popup.

I have answered OK to this popup several THOUSAND times by now. Ten or twenty each day, multiplied by years of using iPhone -- not an overstatement.

Does it have a counter of some sort, such that by a second thousand the phone realizes: "oh, maybe my user already knows about the mobile data being off"?

Yes, I know it's off. I know where to turn it back on. I do not need "Settings" link to send me to the settings, it's right there in quick access menu without the need to go to settings at all. I do not need "OK" either, because it does nothing.

So this popup:

Appears all the time, for example when you are out of Wi-Fi range for a second.

Does not provide useful information, beyond educating a first time smartphone user about mobile data.

Does not give useful actions, because it's faster to turn mobile data on/off in the quick access menu anyway.

Does not go away even if Wi-Fi connection is restored, so you need to click it every time you walk from one room to another, even if Wi-Fi wasn't present for 5 seconds literally. Wow.

Do you have a usability team in Apple at all, do they flag you obvious usability issues? Come on Apple, you can do better than annoying useless popup!

Here is a solution for you: make it a bubble at the top, that will actually disappear once the phone finds the new Wi-Fi access point and the connection is back again.

Yes, I saw thread 251771969, where the response is "These notifications are actually part of the system notifications and cannot be disabled" and more education about Wi-Fi.

If you've got lots of apps running which you've allowed to background refresh then this will make the situation worse. It might help if you made sure that only the apps you want to refresh in the background are allowed to do so and that you shut down apps that you aren't using. Up until recently I was on a pretty limited and expensive mobile data plan so I'd made sure that only apps that I absolutely needed were allowed mobile data and I rarely see this pop up.

Apple don't read these posts and even if they did I don't think they'd change this. Your frustration would pale into insignificance against the millions who would complain about missing an important message because they hadn't realized they were outside data range.

I have never seen this, to the best of my recollection. I do admit, it could have happened once or twice since my first iPhone (iPhone 4) and I forgot.

But, if you want Apple to know what changes you'd like to see going forward, this is not the place to tell them. They don't read here for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

No, this popup has nothing to do with background apps. This popup appears on top of an open app using sockets, such as Safari.

No, if you turn off mobile data and just leave it as it is, there will be no popup.

I have the same problem nowadays. I used to have poor wifi connectivity so I used mobile data heavily the last few years. Mobile data was enabled for almost all apps and I use my phone a lot. However, this killed my battery capacity and so I have become more judicious with mobile data usage now. This pop up keeps coming up for me and it's really annoying, especially on apps like Spotify. If I pay to download music on Spotify so I can listen offline, why do I keep getting bothered to switch in data?

I have been having this random pop up telling me my cellular data is off

I have never used cellular data so of course it’s off

yet the annoying pop up persists

I hope they do figure something out to stop this because it’s annoying and I’m pretty sure it’s why my music keeps getting interrupted

either way whether the problems are connected or not the pop up is still annoying
