You can't sign into this app because it doesn't comply with Google's OAuth 2.0 policy for keeping apps secure

I wiped my old system and installed MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 (highest that could go on my mid 2010 iMac). I tried to add my gmail accounts into Mac Mail but I either get the "You can't sign into this app because it doesn't comply with Google's OAuth 2.0 policy for keeping apps secure" or if I add it as "Add Other Account - @ I get, "unable to verify account name or password."

iMac 27″, macOS 10.13

google changed their mail account making it incompatible with older mail clients, unless you change to two factor authentication and use the app password to add the account
