Authorization code doesn't show up

I'm on a new MBA. On my old one, when I was logging onto a site where I had enabled two-factor verification, the authorization code would show up on the browser and I could just click it into the field for the code.

Now it doesn't. When it shows up on my phone I have to enter it manually. Not a big deal but the other way was convenient.

How do I activate it?

MacBook Air, macOS 13.5

That feature only works with Safari. To my knowledge it does not require any particular setup or configuration.

When it shows up on my phone ...

It should also appear on your Mac. If that is not happening, it suggests your Mac is not a "trusted device" — which it ought to be. If it is not, it won't autofill the two-factor code.
