Sometimes Apple's written instructions are light on details.
Mine too. Took it to the Apple store they said I had the band on backwards!
How old is the watch? If it's still under warranty, I would take it to your local Apple Store and have them evaluate it.

Bands are covered by the same one-year warranty as the Watch itself.
Thank you so much for posting the result! I could not figure out what was wrong. Same deal. Actually, I had both bands facing the wrong way… :-)
It may be worn out or there is something else tugging on it to cause it to come loose. Really you can try a different hole if that hole is worn out, but that is probably not the best situation as it will then change the way the watch fits on the wrist. The other option is to purchase a different watch band for the watch, either a replacement of the same one if that one is worn out as the new one won’t be worn out, or a different band that you like, maybe a Velcro one or another one that latches differently than the one with the metal stub.
