iPhone 11 Pro Max Standby mode isn’t working.

This is a joke in reference to the Southpark episode about Apple. In this episode, Apple was developing a human/ipad device called the Human Centipad that required three humans linked together and connected to an iPad. Apple couldn’t get it to work because of the failure of Kyle (one of the humans) to read the agreements Apple has you agree to in order to update your devices. Steve Jobs kept yelling “why can’t the Centipad read?”

Clock widget on display fixed it for me

If Apple didn't intend for it to work on phones without AOD, it wouldn't have included the feature for those phones. So, whether or not you think the feature is useful on phones without AOD, it is working as Apple intended.

Even on phones with AOD, the screen does go dark at night if there are no lights on.

OK, it has been a week or so and I think I finally have standby mode working. It is still finicky to get the phone to go into standby but it now keeps the display on until I move the phone. I ended up activating focus mode during sleep hours and that, so far, seems to be working. Not sure why but hope this helps someone else.

Lately, mine has worked...except when it doesn't. Standby always activates, but the screen may or may not "intelligently turn off." Sometimes it works until sometime in the middle of the night and sometimes it doesn't work until the middle of the night.

Over the past week standby has worked properly five of seven nights. On the two nights, I placed it on the charger while the TV was on and we were still moving around. That was the only variation. No idea why it would/should matter.

What do you mean by "work without work-arounds or hacks"? A magsafe charger is not required to get Standby to work. Standby will work with any wireless charger that allows the phone to charge in landscape mode. It will also work with a wired charger.

I’ve never once seen it

I wonder if I should disable it in settings because it may be wasting some ram having stuff loaded that doesn’t need to be loaded because I’m not sure if it’ll be useful for me anyway but I’ve never once seen it actually activate

I hope they will fix it. This is clearly a bug, since it just stopped working without any obvious reason.

Hardly to understand how such a straight forward function can be so buggy.

I have the same issue. It worked really well for 3 Days with my iPhone 15 pro. Until it stopped going into standby at all. My device is not in Low Power mode, nor was the feature disabled.

After fiddling around quite a while, I was able to get it into this mode exactly one more time while having it connected to a cable, and moving and shaking it - but that has not been reproducible. So clearly a bug that prevents the phone from going into this mode, or having issues detecting the location.

This is just a wild guess, but I noticed the bug first after using "Focus Screens", adding the "Mars" Home Theme for the first time. And I also installed all the apps I need - nothing crazy, but a bit pro user stuff like "Actions" etc.

So it could be either a totally non-related bug, or have something to-do with other apps, or the Focus Modes.

I am using iphone xs and first of all many features from ios 17 are not working correctly all started working in the other update and now standby mode is not working it never worked in my iphone please help me i have original apple 20 w charger and type c cable plz tell me any solution by which it will work

I found that was the only trick that worked for me, but it only worked if I didn’t have any “Focus” enabled - any focus at all stopped it working and it isn’t even in the list of apps that you can add as allowed in a focus. That might be why it didn’t work the next day, if a focus was on by schedule…?

If you mean "centipede", they can't read because they don't have eyes. Or brains. They are also not an Apple product.

I have an iPhone 15 Pro, and Standby stopped working after a recent update to iOS. It only displayed a charging icon and the time. However, when I swiped up or down then right or left, I could see the red clock and calendar view again. So, it was still there, it was just a on a different screen view.

I just experimented with it. It will not work if you put the phone on the charger and then sit it down in landscape mode. It will only work if you put it down in landscape mode and then plug it to the charger.

Some people have complained about Standby Mode being a bit finicky. Put it on its side, on charge and then tap the sleep/wake button. See if that helps.
