Can't magnify in Markup after iPhone iOS 17 Update

Yes i noticed. It’s not there anymore. One work around is possible if you have a Mac with older mac os (13.6 or earlier). This may / may not work in mac os 14. I haven’t updated.

And for this you need to have your photos synced with icloud.

Open photos app on mac. Edit the photo. There u will see magnify in markup tool. And an option to hand off to iphone. The same image will appear on iphone with older markup tool options. Including magnifier.

hope apple brings back markup tool - magnifier option. The ios 17 guide mentions magnifier in markup tools. But actually its missing on iphone as of now.

you can’t. but u can use the Zoom tool in Accessibility, although you wont be able to change the size. You can apply filters though🙂:). Go to accessibility, then tap zoom, then on. you can choose how much it magnifies too. and choose the region.

This is primarily a user-to-user support forum. Unfortunately it’s not the place to go if you want Apple to respond to you as it’s not how this forum is intended. The way you communicate with Apple directly would be by calling, using the Apple Support app, doing a chat/text session, or going to a physical Apple Store to work with the Genius Bar.

If this is a bug it will be addressed in a future update. Doesn’t mean you are promised it will be addressed on the next update (example, when people were posting on here that it wasn’t fixed on iOS 17.0.2 or this current 17.0.3 it may not have been addressed because those updates may have already been focused on the other issues like the heating issues 17.0.3 primarily addressed). It’s frustrating to wait of course but to put things in perspective…iOS 17 is only 3 weeks old and that’s assuming this issue started as soon as 17 was released.

While waiting there is the option of using other apps like Google Photos that has a magnifier for their markups (others also have it). It’s not a fix of course but if you absolutely need access to this right now it is an option.

I’m not sure this has been mentioned in this long thread but there is a workaround: share the picture with the Books app. Then, in the Books app, edit the picture and you’ll be able to use the magnify tool.

Yeah according to iOS 17 user guide it’s to be there and work as previously. For the majority, there is no “work around”. I spoke to a senior advisor and she was quite surprised and stated issue would be escalated immediately. I’m sure in next update the issue will be resolved. Great feature I used often !

Was so surprised when I found out that this feature had been removed in iOS17. Editing photos was much easier back then when we had it, not sure if this would be brought back cause when I tried talking to an agent the other day, it seems like they're still not aware of this? (another surprising moment for me)

Really hope they'd bring it back in the future updates of iOS17!!!

I miss that feature also so download google photos and use the magnifier on google photos app it will sync with I cloud
