iPhone won't play after pausing music after iOS 17 update

After installing iOS 17, when i pause music playback from the lock screen, the pause is set, but when i want to continue listening, the music does not play, the music slider goes on, there is no sound. Through applications, the pause is not paused at all, the music simply stops playing, while the slider moves, but there is no sound either.

I have a similar issue. I use Neutron Music Player and it worked fine with IOS for years.

With IOS17 it will not autoplay with connected bluetooth devices like it did before. I need to unlock the screen to be able to start music. Sometimes music stops after a track when on locked screen, but this behavior is not consistent.

It is quite clear though that the problem is related to the lock screen. In my car it is even worse. I can only start music once I have unlocked my phone, opened the app and pressed PLAY PAUSE PLAY. It would not be controllable through the HMI of the car (MBUX in that case). I can see that the phone is connected, the album art shows, but the music does not start before at least unlocked (or app opened and PLAY PAUSE PLAY sequence is performed, which is the only definite way to start music at all times).

Very frustrating problem that never happened in the past. Only with IOS 17. Please advice on steps for resolution. The phone is unusable for music with bluetooth right now. Thank you!

I have the same issue with Neutron player. Even after update to 17.2 yesterday. In my car (recent MBUX) I need to take the phone out of the pocket, unlock it, open the app and then press play - pause - play to make it work. No autoplay and no possibility to start from lock screen or from the the car interface (although the music is loaded and album art displayed). I also have the issue that sometimes the music stops after one title. That also seems to have to do with lock screen.

The same is true for apple airpod pro. I cannot start the music over the phone when the screen is locked, although this is an advertised feature of the headphones and worked before since years. Now I need to unlock the phone, start the app and press play in the app.

This is unacceptable.

I raised the issue to the developer of Neutron directly and in the Forum. The response is, that he raised the issue to Apple and did not hear back since two months. He says the problem has to do with audio frequency switching.
