How can i settle and pay my card off to close it ? I can’t get ahead with all of the interest

my husband was in an accident and I used this card to pay bills while he was hurt. I was grateful to have that option. I let the balance get up to $3000. I have been paying $200 here , $300, and $400 payments but then there is months i can’t pay anything except the minimum and the interest is killing me. I can’t get this card payed off. Is there a way to make a settlement to pay it off without having to pay $100 interest every month ?

There may be a hardship program available but your account will be permanently closed and reapplying for a new account is probably off the board. Banks look dimly at closing an account. It will also lower your credit score, which will affect your ability to open new accounts in the future.

As pointed out by Jeff, closing a revolving credit account will almost always damage your credit rating.

Any “Dings” to your credit rating take quite literally years to fully heal; self-inflicted “dings” should be avoided whenever possible.

It’s almost always better for you to pay-off the card and then simply not use it.
