How to disable "are you sure" question when you end a workout?

Hey, is it possible to DISABLE the "are you sure?" question when you end a workout? Having to click twice to end a workout, instead of once, is very frustrating. TIA.

Watch OS 10.2 is out and rolling to all countries.

iPhone, Watch app, My Watch tab, Workout, turn End Workout Confirmation on or off as you wish.

Hi Squiddz. Thanks for confirming you'd requested this change as an option.

I just came back here to tell you about a discovery I made to pretty much bypass that are-you-sure step - somewhat ironically since I'm one of the people who likes the change.

I accidentally double-tapped on the end-workout red X and it immediately ended the workout and took me to the workout summary screen. I suspect the software isn't actually reacting to a double-tap on the X but what is actually happening is that the first tap is ending the workout and then the second tap, despite being slightly above where the are-you-sure button is on the next screen (which I do see flashing up briefly) is still recognised as a yes-I'm-sure push on that button. Whatever's actually happening I've tried it a few times and it always seems to get me right through that are-you-sure screen without really seeing it's there so if you just conceptualise it in your mind that to instantly end your workout you double-tap rather than single-tap the red X you might sort of get want you want with the current release.

I found this accidentally but give it a go yourself and see if it works for you and helps at least a bit.

If you look at the post in this thread by JulianSL on October 7, 2023 you will see he mentions double tapping the end workout button. I have forced myself to do this and I find that it works very close to 100% of the time. After a short time for me it has become muscle memory. Just need for your hand and the watch to be fairly still.

I had hoped the finger tap feature that was added (double tapping the thumb and forefinger, requires series 9) would help with this but for this case it doesn't appear to work because there isn't a default response. In addition, for me it works less than 50% of the time.

This is the best that can be done until/unless Apple realizes what I would call the "error" of their ways.

Your description fits what I recall from watchOS 9. With watchOS 10 the act of stopping a workout now requires the two taps and the "Done" button at the bottom of the workout summary has been replaced by an "X" at the top left corner. I very rarely look at the workout summary so scrolling to the bottom was more of an annoyance for me. Others may have found it helpful.

I agree that this is an extra step. Before WatchOS 10 I simply swiped left then hit the red X to stop it. Now I swipe left, hit the red X and then get the "Are you sure" prompt. I actually like this change though because quite often during a workout I might be a bit tired and distracted so when I found myself wanting to pause a workout I would accidentally end it.

I fully appreciate your frustration though Squiddz so all I would ask is that if you do make a feature request, or if Apple is reading this, then please make it a user-selectable option in the workouts setting to select if that are-you-sure prompt comes up or not after the red X is pressed. You do imply in your original post that is what you are asking for - an option to disable it - but I just wanted to chip in as someone who likes the change to make that 100% explicit so that any feature request that might get acted on is not taken as a request to remove the are-you-sure check completely but rather make it an optional setting.

OMG, I hate this so much! I'm trying to end a workout not confirm nuclear launch codes! What is this Microsoft? as a programmer:

  1. The normative use case is to end, not to accidently end
  2. Its an extra step
  3. it is NOT a good user experience
  4. An "insanely great" solution would either have a application wide setting for confirmations (at least) and/or follow the normative path. So for instance, you end the workout, and if within 1 minute you start the SAME workout again, THEN you ask if you want to resume your previous workout rather than screwing up the normative user experience for the edge case condition.

I did submit this in the feedback app, but as a daily user of the workout app, its so annoying I'm about ready to sell my ultra and get something else.

One person’s annoying extra tap is another person’s safety against accidentally messing up a long workout, or a triathletes requested feature over many years.

Make sure the replacement smart watch only has a single tap to finish (and that it interfaces seamlessly with your iphone) Apple are not reading this and the volunteer responders really don’t mind either way.
