You just likely weren't aware everyone could see all the calls. It is NOT a new feature in iOS 17. Not new, at all.
Instead of everyone sharing the same Apple ID, you should be using Family Sharing and each member should have their own Apple ID.

Because you’re inviting rampant cross contamination of data. From call logs to contacts, health data, messages, saved passwords, browsing history, credit and debit cards… I could go on…
Accounts should never be shared. Each individual needs their own.
For the record, I turned off FAMILY SHARING on my phone and the call history of calls i just made no longer show on the other phones (and vice versa)! Problem solved.
So Kilted "That is a very bad, terrible, awful idea." can you explain why that is so horrendous?
That’s correct. That’s the way it works when you’re using the same account on multiple devices.
Each person needs their own account.

Do you want all four members sharing the same Apple ID to have access to each others text messages? They do and can easily go into settings on their phone and tap each phone number and everyone can read everyone else's text messages. We're not saying you can't share an Apple ID. We're suggesting for privacy, its NEVER a good idea to share one.
4 family members with the same apple account/log in and that never happened for us until IOS17. We can choose to add another person's number on the account to see texts etc but without that checked we only would see our own.
I actually never set up FAMILY SHARING but it looks like it is now activated. Instead everyone used the same master log in email. So if I turn OFF family sharing will the call history go back to each as their own?

Not as long as you’re sharing an account.
It has ALWAYS been that way, when people share the same Apple ID. ALWAYS.
People have actually been experiencing that for years. I'm not sure why you haven't seen it before now. But, as Kilted Tim mentioned, this is not considered a bug.
With a teenage son we were happy to keep an eye on his texts so we could preempt any stupid moves! Served a great purpose. No longer needed or wanted so we may move to Family Sharing. . But do note, we do not now and have never seen each others call logs without the FAMILY SHARING turned on. Thanks everyone for input! Very helpful
