how to use the icloud drive as a backup drive

I would like to either backup my macbook to my icloud drive or back up the icloud drive to a portable drive for redundancy in case i cannot connect to the internet.

iCloud is a synchronization service. Macs cannot backup to iCloud. To backup your Mac, use an external drive and Time Machine (or similar).
