How do I change my iOS email notification to my iTunes ringtone that I paid for? I had it selected then I changed it by accident, and now it will not allow me to choose from my paid for iTunes ringtones?

At this point, something very strange is going on with tones. Even if you purchase the tone from the iTunes Store now, the only thing you can use it for is a ringtone. It's not clear why. Based on what happened when I tried this morning, I suspect it's a bug but obviously, can't be sure.

Tones I had previously purchased are available for everything. Custom tones that I've made over the years are only available as ringtones.

I suggest that you submit feedback to Apple as I have:

Note that iOS 17 is not yet an option for selection in the drop down menu. Just make sure it's in the text box.

t appears that you can only use tones for Texts and other alerts if you bought them from the iTunes store as Alert Tones. Ringtones no longer work as alert tones.

Just had a look on an iPhone 6S - iOS 15.7.9.

With Texttone it is possible to add a purchased ringtone and use it as a textone sound.

With an iPhone with iOS 17, the option adding a purchased ringtone is no longer possible.

Apple support told me they are working on it. When another update comes out they hope to fix it. Told me if it did not fix it to call them back This was on 09/21/23 at 9:00am

Can not set text tone and new mail tone and all the other tones. My ringtone is the only one that works right

I'm sorry but I don't know what Texttone is. Is it an app? I generally buy my tones directly from Apple as it's just easier. The screen in Contacts would have you believe it's still possible to purchase an SMS tone but when I tried this morning, it didn't work.
