AirPrint not working after iOS 17 Update

Airprinter stopped working after ios 17.5.1 update!! I can print from old ipod but not from iphone 13 pro max! Apple FIX THIS!!

There seems to be a common denominator that the firmware of the printer is more often the culprit. Epson seems to be avoiding the issue and I find it extremely frustrating that Apple is not taking a position on this, at leas as far as the forums are concerned.

not a very good customer loyalty position to take. At this point Apple and epson are taking the position that i have to ditch my loyal printer because they can’t get their acts together. As a Nac user since about 1990 I am very dissatisfied.

JOoxon, I have an old Kyocera office printer, duplex, real workhorse prints 40ppm, can't get an upgrade from Kyocera that they guarantee will work, applying it may trash the printer. Can print using the old trad IP address method from laptops, desktops etc, but obviously won't AirPrint with iOS 17. Pain if you want to print a quick email or note from yr iPhone. If you figure out a solution to this, post it here, would be most grateful.

Does anyone know if the old Airport express devices will work with iOS 17?

Assuming that our friends at Apple Inc read all these posts, I wonder if they would reconsider restoring support for all these older but still serviceable printers if only on the grounds of sustainability? Apple ….. your call.

It should not be Canon's issue. It worked fine with iOS 16 and every version before that. I updated the firmware on the Canon, and it still did not work.

In addition, even though my HP OfficeJet 5745 still works, iOS tells me each time to "check the printer for errors". There are never any errors on the printer. Something is broken in iOS 17,

Same issue in our Canon printers in the office. Even after updating firmware, we are unable to use AirPrint option.

Anyway this can be escalated to Apple somehow?

I have the feeling that neither Canon or Apple are doing something to resolve the issue.

I was having the same problem on my iPhone and iPad after upgrading to iOS 17 and I spent over an hour with Apple support and they had me do all these things including taking off the beta software off my iPad. I just did what you said cause I have a canon printer too and it fixed the problem!! You’re awesome!

Thanks for your reply. The printers are old and don’t get any updates. Canon software on ios work but not so comfortable like AirPrint- the hp software works only with an account - I don’t unterstand to print locally.

wondering what Apple changed that now so many people have issues.

HP ENVY PHOTO 7864 Won't work with my iMac which is on 14.0 Sonoma( most updated as per my software update). I can print from my phone and my iPad. I downloaded and re-installed the HP software which I hate but at least you can visualize the printer then, didn't need it before the 14.0.

Using the cable just like it was prior to updating software with no luck. AirPrint from the phone does work and any portable device with AirPrint works. Can’t get the desktop to print or scan. From reading the comments, I need to wait for HP to update their driver and reinstall again

I assume you were running Ventura before your update? If that is the case you could revert to Ventura and update at a later date. I did this because I have some apps that didn’t run properly under Sonoma. If the HP ENVY PHOTO 7864 has a network port you could connect a network cable run it as a IP network printer, or alternatively buy a USB print server for bout $50 and set up the HP as a full network printer. Just some disjointed thoughts if they help.

After you restarted your router and devices did that allow you to print again? Or only having the HP app is allowing you to print now? I had seen other suggestions to turn off private WIFI address if that was enabled but that did not change anything. iOS 16 did not have this issue. Whatever they changed in iOS 17 has broken airprint for older printers.

First of all, I do not have Norton or any VPN on my machine. In addition, I have tried every suggestion offered by the community (updating my printer drivers, turning everything (modem, printers, devices, etc) off and then rebooting. Nothing has worked This is obviously an iOS 17 problem that Apple needs to fix.
