Problem using my Logitech Trackball with my iMac

I have a perfectly ergonomic Logitech Trackball that I have been using with many Mac laptops and computers through the years. I have currently been using it with my iMac with the M1 chip running Ventura 13.5.2. Suddenly the trackball has been acting oddly. I thought it might be the battery, but it does the same strange actions even with a new battery. Does anyone know anything about this? Might there be a compatibility issue with the latest operating system?

When I've had trackballs start tracking oddly (skipping and jumping), it has always been due to an accumulation of skin oils and household dust on the rollers that sense the ball's movement. I do not have a Logitech trackball to check. but I've never seen one that is not removable for cleaning. That is the first thing to try.

Also be aware that, in the last couple of years, Logitech replaced their long-standing software package with a new one that does not support their older input devices. That may be part of the issue, but only Logitech can answer that for you.

We have at least six of their Mx310 corded mice still in use but Logictech no longer supports them with their new software package.
