iOS17 seems to have blown Airprint

The only way that I can print (to Epson XP-15000) is to turn off VPN - only had this problem since iOS17 upgrade. I can print using the Epson iPrint utility and from Macbook Air, so it seems that Airprint has been compromised by the iOSS upgrade - any one out there have the same problem and a fix. I can not find any way to escalate the issue to Apple engineers.

Are you using a VPN App - or have you configured the iPad's VPN using the native VPN Client from iPad settings?

If you are using a third-party VPN App and/or a security App (e.g., Norton), these may been upset by the iPadOS 17 update - resulting in the iPad's internal routing table being disturbed. Try removing these Apps from your iPad - and then perform a forced-restart of your iPad:

Delete apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

After restarting the iPad, you can test AirPrint. If AirPrint is working as expected, you can reinstall the VPN App - and test again.

Many VPNs will, by definition, inhibit direct access to local network resources - unless they are explicitly configured to permit “split tunnelling”.

Those that permit (and are so configured) for spit-tunnel allow access to the local network while routing internet traffic via the VPN connection and the VPN provider’s VPN Gateway. Those clients that disallow split-tunnel will inhibit all access to local printers and other local network resources.
