Broken iPhone Erase/Delete

My iPhone fell and broke some months ago, so I asked for a

replacement to the insurance company and handed in the defective one. Since I

couldn't use it, I erased the data from iCloud but I couldn’t verify if the

data was effectively removed. Now I am getting messages “supposedly” from the

insurance company (unknown numbers/emails) asking me to remove the device from

iCloud.

Should I remove it? How do I check that the data has been

deleted? What are the risks here? What security measures should I take now? Thank

you!

Hi Charlie305,

It sounds like you're seeing a phishing attempt. The article here has information to assist: Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams

You can also see where you're signed in with these steps: Check your Apple ID device list to find where you're signed in - Apple Support

Additionally, if you can double check to see if the previous device was correctly erased with the steps in the section "If you no longer have your iPhone or iPad" from the article here: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone or iPad, and be sure your Apple ID is secure with these steps: If you think your Apple ID has been compromised
