Cancelling Hint App Subscription

It seems I'm not the only one who has been paying for months for the Hint app/subscription without any means to really cancel it. It's supposedly free with the option to cancel subscription at any time. Hopefully Apple will remove that app soon as it's a complete scam.

Anyways, wanted to just share what worked for me to cancel (although time will tell - I'll make sure to update here again in future on further feedback):

  1. Go to the Hint website https://hint.app
  2. Chat to the bot, follow cancel subscription prompts
  3. It may tell you (like it did with me) that you are not registered via their mobile (which I was) but rather registered via their web.  Accept it and view web prompts
  4. It will then give you a personal subscription portal link (Mine was https://hint-us.chargebeeportal.com/portal/v2/login?forward=portal_main) where you will be supplying your email address and login via an OTP.
  5. I was albe to cancel from here.  Hope the same works for you.

Good luck!

Apple Pay does not approve/deny transactions, that would be the bank of the payment method used. As others have found, this occurs from the website, which bypasses Apple's ability to cancel the subscription charges. The same thing occurs whether you use Apple Pay or not.

I agree that authorities should be contacted and providing the links to the sites that you used may be helpful for others so they can do the same.

I had to cancel through their website. I then notified my bank about their unauthorized charges and to block any further charge attempts. When my bank contacted hint, they refunded my money.

Great job! These purchases were not made through an in-app purchase that is able to be cancelled/refunded by Apple. There are even legitimate apps that use this method to bypass Apple's ability to manage the charges, such as Walmart, Netflix, Youtube, etc. If you are not careful and sign up for a subscription with these companies directly without doing an in-app purchase, then you will need to deal with that company to cancel the subscription and request refunds.

Just because they have an app does not mean that every purchase or subscription offered has to use Apples in-app purchase to manage the subscription. Apple would like that to be the case, but courts have ruled that Apple must allow the companies to manage the subscriptions themselves if they want to.

Did your bank refund you through a dispute? I explained that you shouldn't be charged for any subscription plan until after a free trial. I'm totally annoyed at myself for being an idiot but when you pay that small fee at first, after it tells you not to go back on the website otherwise you'll be charged twice but what happened was I wasn charged another two transactions of £40 then £9 and I've not idea what for!
