Cannot empty Trash
message: “cannot delete “universalinstaller” pathname is too long.
Whether I choose Skip, Stop or Continue, the Trash Empty window closes.

If you see the file in your recycle bin, open the Terminal window with applications->utilities->Terminal and type
rm "
drag the file into the terminal window
and then put a closing quote at the end of the text and hit Return on the keyboard.
Use command-shift-period if nothing is apparent in your trash can as the file may be invisible.
boot in safe mode if it still doesn't allow you. Safe mode is the shift key.
If it still doesn't allow you, you might have to use superuser authority. This is something I would only allow a Unix expert to do as it can wipe your hard drive.
