External drive holds itunes library. How to move to new laptop

I currently use an External drive to hold my itunes library. This desktop is old and I want to place itunes on a new laptop. I do not have a shared network. How do I get itunes on the new laptop to synch to my external drive (where it already has the correct genre's, CD cover art, etc) as is on my desktop?
