Apple ARW/Raw photo support for Sony A6700

Hello,

I purchased a Sony A6700 recently and am unable to view any arw or raw photos using finder/files on both my iPad mini (2021) and iPhone 14 pro max. I updated both devices to Ios17 today and still have no luck viewing the photos.

When can we expect ARW/raw support for the Sony A6700?

Any recommendations to get around this until support is announced ?

Thank you!

iPhone 14 Pro Max

Hey Rob!

i wasn’t able to get around the photos app, but if you use Lightroom you can view all of your raw photos through there.

i didn’t realize that you can import raw photos directly from an external device on Lightroom. This has solved my issue of viewing photos, but agreed on needing iOS support asap!

I bought a SD card reader for my iPhone to transfer photos from my 6700. They saved but with no imagine . But when I opened them on light room mobile they appear and I was able to save them from there. I tired on my Mac as well but it don’t even let me download them. On the card reader it Downloads to my pics but shows a blank photo.

Adobe uses their own Raw conversion code - at least on the desktop, they don't use the built-in Raw compatibility library support in macOS. I'd guess that the same is true with regards to their mobile apps and iOS / iPadOS.

The A6700 (ILCE-6700) is on Adobe's list as being supported by current "subscription" Adobe applications.

Adobe – Cameras supported by Camera Raw

macOS / iOS / iPadOS applications like Photos and the Mac's Finder rely on the OS-level libraries, which is why, if those libraries don't support your camera's Raw format yet, those applications don't, either.

There are a few Mac applications that use the system's Raw compatibility list but that supplement it with their own Raw support code (instead of ignoring the system-level code, as Adobe applications do). I am not sure if there are any iOS / iPadOS apps that take this hybrid approach.

I doubt you'll ever see Apple implement support on iOS for Sony products. But I have to believe Sony has an App for iOS devices, which will provide the ability. Check with Sony.

I'm a Nikon shooter and Nikon has apps for their products which can let you see RAW images taken with a Nikon DSLR. Or, you might want to invest in the Adobe Cloud, which would let you import Sony photos into Adobe products, where you can work with them.

Yes, I understand Apple don't monitor these discussions, my comment was rhetorical. I know compatibility will come, at some point, as it has done for previous Sony Alpha cameras. My reporting via Apple Feedback is unlikely to hasten that moment as I'm sure they are aware of the issue and will add that file compatibility, along with that of other new cameras, in due course.
