I can't update my Apple Watch series 8 to WatchOs 10. I try updating it directly from the watch's settings, but I keep getting the error message that an error occurred while looking for an update.
I also can't update it from my phone since I have an iPhone X and it's not compatible with iOS 17. The phone won't update the watch if it's not on iOs 17.
Please advise.

The issue I have is that my iPhone 8+ is too old for the iOS update I need to be able to update my series 7 Apple Watch. It's not at all reasonable to expect me to buy an entirely new iPhone just to update my watch. The phone is just a conduit for data, it's not doing anything clever along the way.
The watch itself refuses to update over WiFi. It gives the error "Unable to Check for Update. An error occurred while checking for a software update." There's about 24GB free on the watch, it's a Series 7 and so should be okay for WatchOS 10, the network is connected to the Internet... but the error persists.

I attempted to load iOS 10 into my Apple Watch Version 9.6.2, Model MU6G2LL/A. The load to the iPhone 13 Pro seemed to have no issues. After waiting for an hour, I concluded that the load onto the watch was not going to happen.
What an unacceptable answer. Aren't Apple Watches supposed to work also for people who do not own iPhones?
I am having the exact same problem. Did you ever get it to work? It’s issues like this that are making me think not-so-good thoughts about the all-mighty Apple. I already have a big brother. Don’t need another. Sorry. Venting. Please don’t tell me you had to get a new phone for it to update. Thanks in advance.
Wait until you get a newer iPhone. If you manage to update the watch, you won't be able to pair it with the iPhone X afterwards.
