markup on ios 17 photos not working

New Markup options in IOS 17 to add a square frame to a portion of a photo seem to have disappeared. At least I can't figure it out. I can select a square but it has a fill and the red slash that is available looks like it will make a framed square but I can't seem to change the color or thickness nor will it save.

Why does Apple feel the need to 'fix' things that aren't broken?

Dear Apple Software Team:

In the past, it was possible to smoothly edit the arrows angle and position with no angular or position restriction.

Now, in IOS 17, the arrow can only be tilted with an offensive “snap to” 0, 45 & 90 degree position. Very annoying!

Also, the entire object, arrow, cannot be grabbed and smoothly positioned to a desired location in the photo anymore? What madness is this??

This is a HUGE step back for the iPhone artist, technical sales and engineering customers who rely on this tool to edit photos for art, customer support and/or educational purposes.

Hope it gets put back the way it was. I am really serious about this. Terrible upgrade.

Sincerely,

Gerard P.

After you select the color - which is just for the border, go back, tap the “greyed out inside” select the “/“ and then the text will disappear and you have your circle! Also if you DRAW a shape *hold* the shape when done and a perfect circle will appear. It’s really easy but I get it I was stumped until reading this thread! 🙏

Similar issue with the arrows, you use to be able to orient them however you like, now they only can be positioned in specific orientations...which wouldn't be terrible, but it's also far more difficult to drag and drop them now. So you end up with this very precise looking arrow, pointed in the general direction of whatever you were trying to point at. Well done Apple....sigh.

I used the photo markup tool daily with my job in construction management, to markup site pics and send to contractors, designers etc, and it was very user friendly. One feature especially was adding a line or arrow from point a to b. Once the line was created I could move, bend, stretch and swivel it to the angle I needed smoothly. Now when I swivel, the point jerks back and forth. For instance if I've taken a photo of a building, standing at the corner and want to draw a line for a sidewalk, I create the first line and swivel it to the angle needed, then duplicate and create the intersecting line at a different angle. Not now, when I try to adjust the line (s) they jerk like I'm trying to hold 2 magnets together with opposing ends.

Yes, that d*mn grey fill is driving me nuts. I understand the concept of “fill”, blah blah. I want to set mine (for shapes) to default to the whitest of whites. Which it always did. Until some update from a few months ago.

Now my shapes are all filled with grey, by default, and even when I go to change it to white a) even that doesn’t always work and b) I WANT MY DEFAULT FILL COLOR TO BE WHITE.

I ve tried fixing it, but the d*mn thing just stays grey.

(and not just about the default grey fill color.)

In mark up you used to be able to click on a rectangular shape adjust the size location and change the color. Now the frame is only black. I want other colors!! If you hand draw the shape and have it at 100% opaque, it will be about 30% opaque at the highest setting no matter what color and is very hard to see. Bring back the old mark up because it worked so much better!!!
