Pound/hash (*) key on iPhone

I live in Australia and use an iPhone XR. When a certain US company calls me it wants to send me a code to verify my identity, and to proceed with this, it asks me to press pound/hash. I do this, and I get told that the response isn't recognised. Is there a difference between the Australian and US pound/hash keys? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Bank initially said it was their issue, now they say it’s the carrier but I’m not convinced. Location sign in I am trying to log in to my apple itunes. I have to get a verification code on another device, but when the code comes to me it says that someone is trying to access my account from Falkirk in Scotland! I live in Surrey - Should I be worried about this and how can I put a more accurate location on my phone?

why do I receive the incorrect location to get my code number for my two step verification When I log into my apple account I do my ID then password and for me to get my numbers for the two step code I have to say I am ok with the location but what do I do if the location is from out of state and I am nowhere near that place. I need to get to get into my account to check if there was a purchase made to my acct. I don't see it on my phone that I did the purchase.
