If you have a "one-sided" transition, one clip in or out and the other side is "nothing", you can right click on the transition and select Transition To/From Black (which is a black solid color and the default) or unselect it for a transparency:

Not sure what you mean here.
When I apply the transition, the incoming clip appears under the "page" as the outgoing clip is going away.
Are you trying to transition into nothingness? Please elaborate.
You could probably just add a short gap clip and instead of transititioning from A to B, you could transition from A to a gap, and then let B appear. Would that do what you want?

I looked around and couldn't find that in the manual. I wonder if they or I missed it. That helps though, I've always wondered how it worked.
