Memojis disappeared after iOS 17 upgrade

I just upgraded to iOS 17 and now my memojis have all disappeared. I checked for how to get them back and found a process that involves the App Store button that SHOULD be next to a camera icon when I open my messages app. Neither the camera nor the App Store icon appears. Without these, I can't proceed to the next steps. I tried looking in Settings to see if I just needed to enable a keyboard, but there was nothing there to enable.

I downloaded a memoji keyboard from the App store, but it's clunky to use - not seamless like the memojis I used to have. How can I get them back?

In new message hit happy face icon by the space bar, Hit "show Stickers", scroll action bar at the top to the right, hit memoji icon and the personalized faces show up. Very complicated compared to the old way. Liked that much better.

OK, I had the same problem after updating my phone 13 Pro Max to iOS 17.0.1 - I too couldn’t find my Memojis which's I use constantly. It must surely be rectified in the next update. In the meantime, go into Messages to start a new message, at left of the message window which you type in, tap on the + symbol, then tap on the Stickers button, which is 3rd icon from the top, you are then taken into a row of icons, tap on the farthest right one, which takes me into a new full page of my existing Memojis. . then to edit your Memojis, tap on the circle on the far right at the top which has three dots ••• in it, which will take you to a large Memoji you’ve already created, there you have 4 options below your Memoji. . NEW MEMOJI, EDIT, DUPLICATE,  DELETE. . just tap on EDIT to make any changes, then save. This works for me, I hope it works for anyone else having the same problem. Good luck!

Mine just disappeared with the latest upgrade on my iPad and my iPhone. WHY would Apple do this??? Do they want us to switch to a different brand?

I guess you didn't read any of the thread before posting. You can access your Memoji by tapping on the "+" next to the text entry box then selecting "Stickers". Depending on how many sticker packs you have installed, you may have to swipe a bit. The icon for Memoji is three faces with the central face having hearts for eyes.

Just found the answer Champ and it’s more simple than that, thank goodness. Simply press the plus sign next to your message box and it’ll bring up a bunch of added message options. One of them is “STICKERS”. Select it and BAM, all of your emojis and stuff will be there. It’s actually the same process you have to use to send GIFs now. Hope this helps….

Reposting what helped me the most (from MASAIAH504) and me.

It’s actually the same process you have to use to send GIFs now. ….. once you choose stickers, across the top, you choose which type of stickers. When you go to Memoji, all of the images are there, not just the one where you can record just the facial movement one in the other section.

Hey Guys, I figured it out.

Step 1: Go to iMessages

Step 2: Go on a chat message

Step 3: Select smiley emoji to the bottom left

Step 4: Select Show stickers

Step 5: At the top you should see the different action button. Click on the Memoji one. You have to send Memoji stickers to the chat for it to pop up on the sticker section on the keyboard as usual

I hope my explanation helpss

Open up a text message. Click the (+) on the left side of the text box. 3rd word down is "stickers". Tap on stickers. At the top there are a line of small icons. Find the one of the face. Click on it. Your Memojis will be there. Once you use one, they will all show up but you must do those 3 steps. It took me a lot of research, trial and error but I found them.
